The Paraelemental Plane of Mud

The Paraelemental Plane of Mud, one of the six paraelemental planes in the Inner Planar Region is a realm where the elemental forces of Earth and Water meld, shaping a domain of endless bogs, swamps, and muddy landscapes. This plane, under a perpetually dark grey sky, features marshes and rivers of muddy water, contributing to its enigmatic and treacherous nature. The plane is mostly flat, with only few clay hills here and there.

Movement in this plane is very impaired, because of the viscous nature of the soil. Most of the time an earth-bound planar traveler will be knee deep or even deeper in the mud. There is also the risk of finding patches of deeper mud which can swallow the unwary completely.

In places where water is more scarce, the terrain turns into cracked mud drylands that stretch to the horizon. Though movement is normal in these areas, there are other perils, like the lack of fresh water sources, that pose a danger to travelers.

The plane is sparsely inhabited, primarily by elementals, mire lizardfolk, and other lesser humanoids. Due to the plane's inhospitable and perilous nature, planar travelers are rare. The environment, though unwelcoming and hazardous, appeals to certain outsider creatures, such as powerful hags, who find the plane's characteristics suitable for their needs and tastes and thus choose to reside there.
