The Paraelemental Plane of Steam

The Paraelemental Plane of Steam is a realm within the Inner Planar Region where the elements of fire and water intermingle, creating a world of warm, dense mist. It is a place of endless vapor, with visibility often reduced to mere feet, or even less. Unlike its fiery counterpart, heat is not necessarily a problem. While there are regions on this plane where heat could be potentially lethal, these regions are scarce. Most of this plane provides a warm, humid environment of air saturated with steam. While this is certainly not comfortable for most travelers, it is far from lethal.

Moving through this plane can be imagined as moving through a dense, warm mist, akin to being enveloped inside a cloud. Visibility is significantly reduced, challenging inhabitants to rely more on senses other than sight to navigate this seemingly boundless expanse. The plane's environment is characterized by an omnipresent steamy haze, with most of its space appearing vast and empty. Gravity here is directional, allowing objects to float aimlessly in the endless mists unless guided by intent.

One of the primary dangers in this plane is the variability of vapor density. In some areas, the steam becomes so thick that air-breathing creatures risk suffocation, as they inhale more water vapor than air. This hazard is insidious as the suffocation is gradual, and the dense areas are hard to distinguish due to limited visibility. The difficulty in navigation exacerbates this threat, making it challenging for travelers to escape these perilous zones.

The plane's native inhabitants are mostly steam elementals, adapted to thrive in its steamy conditions. Additionally, entities like Marids find this environment suitable and often take up residence here. Unlike the Elemental Plane of Air, there are not wind currents strong enough to condense clouds into solid state, but it can be condensed by magical means, while others bring in land from outside realms.
