It is a plane that also exists in the center of the cosmology, on the Central Planar Region. It is coexistent and coterminous with the material plane, over all the space occupied by the material plane. But also the ethereal plane extends beyond those confines. The areas where the Ethereal plane does not touch the material plane are called the "Deep Ethereal". This basically means that, with the proper magic, it is possible to travel from the material plane to the ethereal plane and vice-versa. The Ethereal plane is also coexistent with the Shadow Plane, but they are not coterminous, which means that one planar traveler cannot go directly from one plane to the other.
Situated at the heart of the cosmology, the Ethereal Plane coexists with both the Material Plane and the Plane of Shadow within the Central Planar Region. It shares space with the Material Plane, allowing for magical travel between the two. Despite the need to do so by magic means, the Ethereal Plane remains one of the most accessible planar destinations for inhabitants of the Material Plane. Yet, the Ethereal Plane stretches beyond this shared boundary into the enigmatic Deep Ethereal. Only those already within the Ethereal Plane can venture into this region, a treacherous expanse where one can easily become lost.

The Ethereal plane is a place of mist, mostly empty. Even though their are coexistent, the ethereal plane is invisible to the inhabitants of the Material plane (though with proper magic or magical abilities, it can be seen). But from the the ethereal plane, the material plane is clearly visible, although is seen like covered in a misty haze and blurry features, and not as far as he could if he was in the material plane. Even if an object is visible in the material plane, that object does not exist in the ethereal plane, which means that beings in the ethereal plane can move freely through objects in the material plane. also, sounds in the material plane can be heard in the ethereal plane, only dimmed. All these characteristics make the ethereal plane perfect for creatures wanting to spy into the material plane.
Although the Ethereal Plane coexists with the Shadow Plane, they are not coterminous. This lack of direct overlap means that planar travelers cannot move directly from one plane to the other. Instead, all such journeys must first traverse the Astral Plane, a feat achievable only through the most potent magic.

The Ethereal Plane has its own inhabitants, ghosts being the most prevalent. Creatures in the ethereal plane are incorporeal, even planar travelers who arrive there (who instantly become, with all their belongings, into an ethereal version of themselves). Creatures on the ethereal plane cannot attack directly creatures on the material plane. Beings that are not native to the ethereal plane and have no ethereal magic properties always radiate soft aura that attract creatures of the ethereal plane who feed on that energy, like ghosts. That is the reason why the ethereal plane is such a dangerous place. One important thing is that interaction between things or creatures in the ethereal plane is like both were on the material plane. Ethereal objects (if they can be found) can be hold or altered by ethereal beings like they were solid.
The Ethereal Plane's landscape is largely empty and veiled in mist. To those in the Material Plane, the Ethereal Plane is invisible without the aid of specific magical spells. Conversely, from within the Ethereal Plane, the Material Plane is visible, though shrouded in a misty haze that blurs its features. Visibility is limited in the Ethereal Plane, reducing the range one can see compared to the Material Plane. Objects and creatures from the Material Plane do not exist in the Ethereal Plane, allowing ethereal beings to pass through solid objects effortlessly. Sounds from the Material Plane reach the Ethereal Plane faintly, adding to its allure as a haven for spies.

There is no gravity in the ethereal plane. Movement is done through force of will: one just wishes to go in a certain direction and will move. Even though creatures in the ethereal plane can move almost freely, there are certain effects, mostly magical in nature, that can impede movement on the ethereal, force effects being the most prevalent. A force object exists both on the material and the ethereal plane, so for example a force wall surrounding a room would be a good way to keep creatures on the ethereal plane at bay.
Gravity holds no dominion in the Ethereal Plane, and movement is guided by sheer willpower. Despite the apparent freedom, certain magical effects can hinder movement, with force effects being the most common obstacle. These force objects exist simultaneously in both the Material and Ethereal Planes, making constructs like force walls effective barriers against ethereal entities.

Creatures entering the Ethereal Plane transform into ethereal versions of themselves, along with all their possessions. While ethereal beings cannot physically interact with or attack creatures in the Material Plane, they can engage with other ethereal entities. Interactions within the Ethereal Plane mimic those in the Material Plane, with ethereal objects behaving as solid items, if one can find them.

There are some natural inhabitants of the Ethereal Plane, ghosts being the most prominent. Other non native inhabitants exist, but are scarce. Non-native beings emit a soft aura that draws ethereal creatures that feed on it. and this poses a danger to anyone who wants to establish in the ethereal realms for long periods of time. The Ethereal Plane

The Ethereal Plane, a ghostly counterpart to the Material Plane, exists as a realm shrouded in mist and mystery. Here, the physical laws that govern the Material Plane hold little sway. Gravity becomes a mere suggestion, and emptiness reigns supreme, creating an environment where phenomena often defy explanation. This ethereal realm captivates the imagination with its otherworldly nature, drawing in those who seek the unknown.

Although the Ethereal Plane coexists with the Shadow Plane, they are not coterminous. This lack of direct overlap means that planar travelers cannot move directly from one plane to the other. Instead, all such journeys must first traverse the Astral Plane, a feat achievable only through the most potent magic.
