The Material Plane

The Material Plane is the hearth of the cosmology, and one of the planes in the Central Planar Region, a realm of diverse landscapes and infinite possibilities. It's a vibrant world, teeming with life, cultures, and mysteries. Here, the laws of physics and magic coalesce to create a reality that is both familiar and fantastic. It's a world of stark contrasts, where serene valleys can exist alongside towering mountains, and bustling cities border untamed wilderness.

This plane is not just a static backdrop for adventure but a dynamic participant in the tales that unfold. It's a place where heroes are forged, legends are born, and the fate of many rests in the hands of the few. The Material Plane is also the anchor point for the other planes of existence, with its physical and magical properties influencing the nature of the planes it connects with.

The Material Plane is infinite in size, but the world in it is finite. It lies at the center of the plane, a disk-shaped landmass known as the world of Nyrus. It has diverse geographical features such as continents, oceans, islands, and various natural environments. Surrounding Nyrus are numerous floating islands known as the Drifts, varying in size from as small as a house to as large as countries. These Drifts exhibit different behaviors: some follow cyclic patterns, others are stationary, some move erratically, and a few can be moved at the will of their inhabitants. While a few Drifts are close enough to Nyrus to be accessible, most are distant and require powerful means to reach. Some Drifts have their own unique populations, separate from the world of Nyrus.

An enormous quantity of creatures call the Material Plane home, and for most of them, is all that there is. Humans, elves, dwarfs, gnomes and halflings, as also orcs, trolls and goblins are just some examples of the abundant variations of life in this plane.

The Material Plane coexists with the Ethereal Plane and the Plane of Shadow, allowing travel to these planes from any point with appropriate magical means.

The World of Nyrus

The World of Nyrus

In the boundless expanse of the Material Plane, the realm it encompasses, known as Nyrus, presents a finite but vast tapestry of diverse terrains. Nyrus, a colossal, disk-shaped world, boasts a myriad of natural wonders—from sprawling oceans and majestic continents to secluded islands and beyond. This world serves as a sanctuary for an array of beings: the versatile humans, the elegant elves, the steadfast dwarves, the formidable orcs, and the awe-inspiring dragons that rule the heavens, among others.

Diversity reigns supreme in Nyrus, with each species showcasing a rich spectrum of racial and cultural distinctions. Adaptability is a trait shared by all creatures here, allowing them to thrive in every corner of the world—from the loftiest peaks to the most abyssal depths of the oceans. Life in Nyrus pulsates with vigor in every environment.

The surface of this world is graced by five distinct continents, each boasting its unique allure:

  • The frigid expanse of Kharnak, situated in the north, is a bastion of robust and untamed peoples.
  • To the west lies Al'Anwaar, with its sprawling deserts and lush oases, a cradle of exquisite craftsmanship and indomitable inhabitants.
  • In the east, Igochi unfolds with its serene plains and towering mountains, a realm synonymous with artistic expression and a revered warrior ethos.
  • At the heart of Nyrus, Thundarum emerges as a land of raw power, where stalwart warriors challenge the yoke of tyranny, and the rigors of a hostile land.
  • Finally, to the south, the mystic realm of Eldenvar beckons, a continent woven with threads of adventure and shrouded in veils of peril.
