The Quasielemental Plane of Miasma

The Quasielemental Plane of Miasma is a plane of decay, of corruption and of disease, the result of the degenerative effect of the negative energy over air. It is located in the Inner Planar Region. The plane is always covered in a thick greenish fog, called the miasma fog, of harmful properties. The plane has no other feature, except for the corrupted remains of matter that enters from other planes. Floating islands of death or corrupted vegetation sometimes can be seen drifting through the endless mist. This remains continue to decay until they became part of the miasma fog themselves.

This is a very unfriendly plane towards life. The miasma fog always reduces visibility, but also decays everything it touches, especially living matter. Exposed skin of an unprotected creature will begin to corrupt, decay and rot. If one breathes the miasma fog, will also begin to suffocate and rot from the inside, leading to a very painful death. Removing oneself from the fog does not stop the decaying effect, and special medicine, even magical, would be needed.

Given the nature of this plane, few living beings dare to travel here. Still, the properties of the miasma fog is a matter of study, as scholars believe it is tied to the existence of diseases of all kinds. This fact attracts some individuals that visit the plane. Also, there are some creatures that have adapted to live in the plane. Miasma elementals are very deadly, as also some insects that feed on the rotting matter. The miasma fly is a example, immune to the effects of the miasma, actually exists in quantities so large that sometimes can create enormous swarms that can be seen as dark clouds flying through the fog.
